We Preserve, Revitalize and Visualize Historic Cascade Heights “Atlanta’s Community In A Park”

Cascade Heights, just southwest of downtown Atlanta is within 15 minutes from some of the city’s key attractions and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport via I-20 and I-285. The Cascade Heights Historic Commercial District, located at the intersection of Benjamin E. Mays Drive and Cascade Road, is the long-time commercial anchor to the area. The commercial amenities include banking, a mixed range of retail, CVS Pharmacy, J. R. Crickets, Spice House, Buzz Coffee and Wine House and The Beautiful soul food restaurant.

The district is enriched by the historic and culturally unique neighborhoods that it serves. And is surrounded by homes with sprawling lawns and rolling hills sitting within the 2nd highest tree canopy coverage area in the City. This includes the Cascade Heights Greenspace District containing 600 acres of parks for hiking, biking, swimming fishing, golf, tennis and other active and passive activities within a 1 radius of the commercial district and linked to the commercial district by a network of greenways, parkways and shared use paths.

Cascade Heights has remained the home of some of Atlanta’s greatest black leaders. A few notable community and civic leaders who lived in Cascade Heights include Benjamin E. Mays, longtime Morehouse President; Minister C.T. Vivian, civil rights activist; C.A. Scott, founder of Atlanta Daily World; and Dr. Clinton Warner. Today former Atlanta mayor Shirley Franklin, baseball legend Hank Aaron and former UN Ambassador Andrew Young still call Cascade Heights home.

The Cascade Heights business district will be a premier gathering destination. Focus will be on featuring the area’s rich history, culture, and vast greenspaces that make Cascade Heights Atlanta’s Community in a Park. Walls both exterior and interior would be curated with artistic, historic and art images that work together to project a cohesive whole for the area. It’s the place where we gather to tell our stories and commune with each other and the greater community. There would be lectures, Sunday outdoor sales from the churches, local farmers and artists, etc. Good vibes both by music and spirit will define the space and place. Cool Mom and Pop establishments will focus on the highest level of products and customer service. Cascade Heights is the place where the community has decided its business district must “be the best” in all it can be.
